Types of UPVC Door Handles
When your upvc door handle needs replacing it's essential to find the right replacement for your home. A locksmith can supply and fit high-security uPVC handles with extra security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Take these measurements to make sure your new uPVC handle will fit.

Lever/Lever
A lever is a rod that pivots around the point. When you apply force to the end of the lever, it is likely to cause it to turn the fulcrum in the direction of the force. This rotation multiplies the applied force and allows you to lift or move something that would require more force if you tried to apply it directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the most effective movement. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever extends the greater the advantage in terms of mechanical. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing distance from fulcrum point to the place where you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.
Levers also have various effects based on the way in which forces are applied. For example, a class 2 lever is inclined to turn in the opposite direction to when the effort force is applied (like a totter-totter). The forces produced when you push on the handle of a front door will result in rotational effects similar to those.
However, levers don't create energy. They multiply the force by converting small amounts of effort applied over a long distance into greater amounts of force applied over shorter distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move large quantities of cargo. This is also the basis behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools like crowbars, fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also referred to as upvc door handles, have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in various finishes and variations and can be used on a variety of materials, including UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for both the outside and the interior doors with screws and spindles included. They are also available in both handed and unhanded versions for different users.
They are commonly used in new constructions and are used to replace the doors made of upvc. They are usually operated by lifting the levers to throw out all of the multipoint locks and turning the key to close / unlock. They offer a little more security than the standard lever handles for doors because locking can only be performed through the inside with the key.
They're not as secure as a cylinder bolt but are a reasonable alternative for a home with more security. The only drawback is that they do not provide the same level protection as a cylinder lock, and they don't restrict access to the home when the door is left open.
The majority of lever pad upvc door handles we have in stock are manufactured by the top manufacturers in the industry and are constructed using high quality components. They are also typically supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
Typically, these will be designed to be compatible with a 92mm lock or the replacement version called a Paddock lock. They will feature a 92mm cylinder center on the inside and 62mm on the exterior and be equipped with two spindle followers. Some come with a backplate, and others are removable for different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the simplest type of door handles. Pushing down on the lever operates a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it closed. It can also be locked using keys. Some lever privacy handles operate based on this same principle however, with the addition of a lock snib (like knobs for doors).
A snib button can be extremely useful, particularly for homes where it's crucial to protect privacy or ensure security. You can use the snib feature to block your guest from entering until they are ready. This kind handle is also used in interior doors like bedrooms, where you might need to restrict access from outside.
In certain situations, snib buttons can cause issues, especially if you have older locks and doors that are distorted. If the snib switch is accidentally pressed, or by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door may be slammed and you locked out. You can usually gain entry by knocking the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't the best option.
If your uPVC door is equipped with a snib-button We recommend replacing the handle with a contemporary E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. Lever/Moveable Pad
This popular handle design is commonly used on front doors. It is advantageous because it has the benefit of preventing the door being opened without the key from outside when the lock hasn't been deadlocked. This is accomplished by the 'pad'-shaped external handle that locks into the gap between the handles and the lock case to prevent the latch from being pulled back or the door being opened.
This type of handle is made for uPVC doors with multipoint locks which operate via split spindle technology. This kind of operation requires that the lever handle and external pad handle are both fitted to the same lock case.
